Micaceous Clays

Orange Mica #5  Our original mica clay.  Inspired by the  micaceous pottery of Northern New Mexico, this clay contains a high percentage of mica.  This body is wonderful for handbuilding using traditional techniques and also throws well on the wheel.  Finishing and firing possibilities include electric firing, (suggested firing range from cone 06 to cone 2), burnishing, pit firing, raku firing, use your imagination!

Stoneware Clays

Mid Range Clays, fire to cone 5 or 6.

B-mix 5   Our cone 5 version of B Mix, this body is in between a white stoneware and a porcelain. This clay is much easier to throw than a true porcelain, but still glazes and fires with a wonderful porcelainous feel. No sand or grog, color is eggshell in oxidation or reduction.

JM6  This clay was formulated to be a fabulous throwing body, but turned out to be a great general purpose clay as well. Contains fine sand and grog. Grey in the bag, fires to a nice orange/brown in reduction, yellowish tan in oxidation.

Appaloosa The same basic formula as JM6, but with some red clay added for a slightly darker color and magnetite for specks. A favorite for throwing.

JM5X  Just like JM6 but with X-tra iron, and lots of it! Fires to a rich reddish brown in oxidation, very dark in reduction. Don't reduce heavily.

Annie's Mix  Red handbuilding clay, contains lots of medium coarse sand and kyanite for making very large work or raku firing. Fires red/brown in oxidation, dark brown in reduction.

WS5 with Kyanite  Medium grained white stoneware, great for tableware and other medium to large size pieces. The addition of kyanite means it raku fires well also. Fires off white.

 Cone 10 Clays

B Mix 10  In between a white stoneware and a porcelain. This body is much easier to throw than a true porcelain, but still glazes and fires with a wonderful porcelainous feel. No sand or grog, color is eggshell in oxidation or reduction.

JM4   Cone 10 version of JM6, this clay was formulated to be a fabulous throwing body, but turned out to be a great general purpose clay as well. Contains fine sand and grog. Grey in the bag, fires to a nice orange/brown in reduction, yellowish tan in oxidation.

Sculpture Mix  The same basic recipe as JM4 with coarse grog and sand for large work. Grey in the bag, fires to a nice orange/brown in reduction, yellowish tan in oxidation.
